1. What are you currently up to?
George Rain: Hello, Michael! :-) I have a lot of work around the band right now, but it’s great!!! People are finally interested in our music and we feel really satisfied... We are planning the video and some touring for next year, I’m writing some new music, etc. I live in UK right now and I moved from Perthshire to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, so now I’m looking for some job here…
2. Could you take us through the great album „Tears of white roses“ and some of the ideas/stories behind the songs please...
GR: The most of the songs are connected by main topics – the good and evil inside us; and life and death from many points of view. The rose can be the personification of the human being – during its short life it presents beauty and harmony, but it’s all predestined to die. It seems sad, but we can find the hope in continuing of our souls – our story becomes never-ending… You know, I have the Master degree in cultural history – I am the collector of medieval coins and old books from 18th and 19th century, so, history was always my big inspiration as well… For example the song “Fields Of Chlum” was inspired by the battle between Austria and Prussia in 1866 A.D. It happened about 20 kilometers from my town in Czech Republic and many people died that day… The song is written from the view of one killed young man – like saying the last goodbye to his fiancée. For “Dorian” we borrowed the name of Oscar Wilde’s character, Dorian Gray, to personalize the evil side inside us all. “Femme Fatale” is about the fatal love, “Silver Water” means the moment of dying like the “wake up call” to the other side and “Phoenix Rising” is about rising from the darkness in our lives… For the rest of our songs you have to check the album! :-)
3. How has the reaction been so far, from reviewers and fans to the album?
GR: All reactions ‘till this day are much better than we ever hoped!!! You can read about twenty reviews from many countries in our myspace profile and they are all positive! We are really happy, because we believed in the material from the beginning and we worked really hard to reach this kind of quality… Now we can see that it all makes a sense!
4. My favorite song on “Tears of white roses” is “Remiel in flames”. Which song is your favourite and why?
GR: We have the similar taste, man! :-) I love “Remiel…”, because it was the last song I composed for this album… It’s really a powerful one and I really love that energy! But I like all of our songs – you know, we created them all and it’s like with your own children – you love them all and you can’t choose the most favorite one… :-)
5. Are there any plans for live dates in Germany and how easy/hard is it to get a decent run of tour dates?
GR: It’s too soon now, because we are just starting to plan our live dates for 2011… In the best way we would like to go through Europe, but unfortunately I can’t say anything more concrete right now…
6. If given the chance which bands would you like to tour with and why?
GR: We would really like to play with anyone of our guests!!! We are fans of their bands and if it would happen, we could perform the songs with their guest-parts live, which should be fantastic… But we know how busy they are, so we will try to manage it somehow else… And, if we are talking about our dreams, to play with KAMELOT would be fantastic, for example…
7. How did you hook-up with Escape Music and is this a long term deal?
Looking back do you think the problems you have had with labels going under; having poor distribution etc has hindered the band getting your music out to the fans?
GR: It was Mike DiMeo who gave me the contact to Khalil Turk from Escape Music… I sent him an e-mail and he liked our music… So, after some discussions with Roland Grapow and Apollo Papathanasio, we made a record deal with them and I have to say we are still satisfied, because they believe in our album and their promotion is big enough! We signed it for three years, so we are looking forward to do our second album with Escape as well… In the past it was really difficult for us to let people know that we are here! :-) All of our demos and CDs were released in an independent way, so everything was only up to us and we weren’t so experienced, so we couldn’t promote us in other countries, you know… But times are changing, we grew up and now we are here with a clear vision and with an album we believe in! You can expect big things! :-)
8. When you are not so busy and hopefully you find time to relax. What do you like to do to relax?
GR: I’m living in Edinburgh, so, when I have a time, I like chatting with my band-mates and friends from Czech Republic… And I love history; I’m always reading some books about it – but not some boring ones :-) …I can strongly recommend writers like Carlo Ginzburg, Georges Duby or Jean Delumeau!!! I am the collector of medieval coins and books from 18th and 19th century as well, but my biggest hobby is music, of course, so I like writing and arranging some new stuff the most! That’s what I’m thinking about almost every day… :-)
9. What really gets on your nerves and really annoys you at the moment?
GR: :-) Oh, I’m not a furious kind of person, haha!!! It’s not so easy to make me angry and, in general, I’m trying to have a positive mind, our album is out now, my big dream is coming true, so, I think I’m a happy person! :-)
10. Message to your fans...
I would like to say: if you are fans of melody rock/metal, try to visit our myspace profile (www.myspace.com/sebastienband) or our new web-sites (www.sebastienofficial.com) and check our music! We hope you will like it. I was working almost for the whole year on Scottish farms, where I lived in a caravan, just to make money for this crazy project. :-) We did our best to prepare the great exceptional album for you and we believe in your support… STAY ROCK!!! :-)
Thank you, George, and I hope we will see us at to ur in the future in Germany. I wish you good luck with your début album “Tears of white roses”.
