Interview: Ian J. Stewart (STRANGEWAYS)

Endlich kann ich wieder mal ein Interview veröffentlichen. Diesmal hat, IAN J. STEWART der Gitarrist von der britischen AOR-Band STRANGEWAYS, Zeit gefunden meine Fragen zu beantworten.
Also los gehts.......

Hi , I am Michael and welcome to Melodic-Rock-Inside.com. Thank you for having time for the interview. I have some question for you.

1. Could you tell us please what are you currently up to?

Promoting the new album,we just played the Firefest at Nottingham Rock City,we got such a warm welcome back after 20 yrs or so not playing together in this line up.

2. Could you take us through the songs on the new album “Perfect World” (such as ideas behind the songs, songwriting process)?

All the songs are really a reflection of where we are now as artist,i really think the lyrics and the atmospheres speak for themselves whether it is the heartfelt vibe in Borderline or the political twist of Bushfire (Mr.Bush's was in Iraq).

3.  Where do you get your songwriting ideas from and who musically is an influence on you?

We are all influenced by many diverse types of music, personally i listen to people like Jamie Mcmurtry,Blue Nile,Joni Mitchell,Radiohead basically anything that is written and performed from the heart.

4.  The band recently reformed in the original line up, how did this come about?

Keiran Dargan from Firefest contacted me about reforming for the gig this year, after we got talking one thing led to another and we ended up deciding to make a new record as well. I guess the timing was just right for us all to come back together.

5.  From your career to date what would you change in hindsight if you could and why?
I think we all learn from our mistakes but i wouldn't really change anything, music takes you on many interesting journeys that's the whole point, loads of ups and downs but all part of the learning process.

6.  Any good rock 'n' roll tales to tell?

There once was a band called Strangeways who made a couple of critically acclaimed albums in the eighties but they refused to be pigeonholed and stubbornly went on about their business  exploring their musical ideas and generally doing what they wanted which is what they're still doing now and will continue to do in the future :)    they haven't quite got to the bit where they all lived happily ever after but they strive towards it every day.

7.  How hard/easy has it been to get yourself and your music known? How do you view downloads – do they help or hinder new artists?

I think with the internet and all of the networking sites like Facebook,Reverbnation, myspace ect,it has become easier in many ways to connect directly with your fans, get instant feedback. i think downloading is fine,i believe true music fans know the work musicians put in to making music and that it does have a value.

8.  What do you do in your spare time outside of music?

Make more music!…….spend time with my two dogs Jaques and Ruebin, read books watch movies go for extremely long walks, make more music,i  think music is actually a way of life and it is always there no matter what.

9.  What really gets on your nerves and really annoys you at the moment?

Big corporations being baled out by honest taxpayers and then behaving exactly like they did before the crash.

10.  Message to your fans...

We love you all,the support we have received over the years is amazing,we know that sometimes some of you don'y get it but we always play and write from the heart and are totally honest about our music.

Thank you  and good luck with the new album “Perfect World”.

Thanks  Michael,all the best m8.:)
