Interview: THE POODLES / Pontus Egberg

Hi Pontus, I am Michael.Thank you for having time to answer some question for www.melodic-rock-inside.com.

1.In April you had the  „Sweden Rocks Germany Tour 2010“ and the concert in Munich was great.
How did the recent Germany tour dates go for you? What were the highlights?

Thanks. The tour was great. We had a fantastic time together with the guys from H.E.A.T and Treat on the whole tour and the shows in Germany were super. We always have a fabulous time in Germany, a lot of really nice people and always good crowds at the shows. I wouldn't say there were any particular highlights, it was all good. Munich that you mentioned is sort of a favorite place, we always have a really good time when we're there, and Ludwigsburg.

2. On this Tour you played with H.E.A.T. und TREAT. How was the time with the guys from the other bands?

As I just said we had a really great time together. All the guys are really nice and we had a good time on the entire tour, we got along really well. The start of the tour was not really as we had planned it due to the volcano that screwed up al the airline traffic in Europe. So instead of flying down to Madrid which would have taken about three hours we had to take the bus which took us three days. But still, we got a little bus party going that lasted the whole trip and basically just had a good time.

3. If given the chance - which bands would you like to tour with and why?

Not really anyone in particular actually. There are a lot of bands that I would love to tour with of course but no one special.

4. What's in the pipeline now? Is a new album scheduled?

We are right now into the last few shows of the summer tour 2010. I'm right now in Örnsköldsvik, a town pretty far north in Sweden, where we are doing a show tomorrow together with Treat and Europe, it's going to be a lot of fun. At the same time we are just about to sign a new record deal that I really can't tell you anything about at the moment but we're having high hopes for the outcome of that. The first thing that will come out of this new deal is a live album followed by a live-DVD. These releases are pretty much all finished and waiting for the papers to be signed and for us to set a release date so hopefully they're not far off, some time this fall. We are also currently writing and demoing a lot of new material and the plan is to enter the studio around October 1st to record our next studio album and we are aiming for a release early next year.

5. Highlights and lowlights so far for the band?

I must say we have been spared from low point in our career so far. Of course every now and then there's a show that isn't brilliant for one reason or the other and not everything you do is all fun and games and sometimes you just want to stay home and lay on the couch but on the whole I must say most of the time we really have a good time when we're out doing what we do. So, the highlights......  There are of course a few things that come to mind, especially some shows. First of all, of course, the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden in 2006 which was pretty much the start of this whole thing, Sweden Rock the same year, our first headlining tour of Europe in 2008, Sweden Rock Festival in 2008, the premier show for Henrik as guitar player, Graspop in 2010. The list could be made very long I'm afraid so I'll stop right there. Then there are of course some other things that are definitely highlights like getting your first gold record to hang on the wall and reaching no. 1 on the Swedish charts.

6. How do you view the internet and downloads? How has the internet helped get your music out there?

The internet has a lot of positive sides to it even for musician and bands of course. Via the internet you can spread the music of a band or an artist on an international level that would be quite impossible otherwise BUT, the illegal downloading of music is a big problem today for all bands, artists, musicians, songwriters, basically the whole business so I don't like that part of it at all!

7. Who are your musical influences and why?

All of us in the band pretty much grew up listening to 70s and 80s Hare Rock and Metal. Bands like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and on to Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Guns & Roses, Metallica and a lot more so that is, I guess, our musical base somehow. We also listen to and are influenced by plenty of more modern stuff as well and a lot of other styles of music too of course. Basically all sorts of good music.

8. What really gets on your nerves and really annoys you at the moment?

British Petroleum and their leaking oil well in the Mexican Gulf.

9. What do you like doing with your spare time beside the music?

I don't seem to have a lot of spare time to do things these days but when I do I guess I mostly try to spend time with my family and maybe hook up with friends I haven't seen in a long time. I'm definitely not complaining though, I love doing what I do and feel very fortunate to be able to do it at this level.
10. Message to your fans...
Thanks everyone for buying our albums and coming to the shows, keep an eye out for the new live album and DVD that will be released later this fall and I hope to see all soon on the road again.

Thank you Pontus, I hope we´ll see us again on tour and I will waiting for a new THE POODLES album in the future. I wish you and the other guys of The Poodles all the best.In
